Well, we made it through our first FULL week and we made it through with flying colors. That first "week" {my firsties informed me four days does not equal a school week - smart cookies} about did me in. If you remember, I have a lot of boys this year. The current stats are: 18 boys and 5 girls. I might have a boy-heavy room, but that doesn't mean I won't have a class of respectful, kind, {energetic} and responsible learners.
When you are as tired as I am, a blog full of randomness is about all you can dig up...
Most of these are from Instagram...so sorry you might have seen them already.
Knowing that both boys and girls are into the video game Minecraft - I used this as my quiet signal on Friday.
Worked like a charm. A little mining here, a little mining there, and my kiddos {especially my boys} were putty in my hands!
After that long first FULL week...I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Nothing that a visit to Target couldn't fix...
Are those shoes not the cutest? And that candle? Oh the sweet smells of fall!
Have I told you yet how much I'm loving Planbook.com? I tried it out this summer and blogged about it here. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. Seriously, friends - it makes life SOOOOOOO easy. The best part? They now have an app for your iPad!!!!!!
I am so happy to report that my weight-loss efforts are now complete!!!!!!
Now I have to focus on maintaining. This has always been {yup, I've done this before} the hardest part for me. I think this is why I'm not all that excited about my accomplishment. Being a teacher is so dang stressful and stress always makes me turn to food. Conferences, report cards, struggling kiddos...all make me reach for a bag of M & M's. A fully stocked teachers' lounge doesn't help either!!!! So here's hoping I can keep it off this time. If you have any tips or tricks, I'd love to hear 'em!!!
Happy weekend friends...they go too fast!

Great job Hol! Love the target finds :) yep tired describes it all! Hugs friend!
ReplyDeleteMy colleague started the year with only 3 girls and 18 boys! Now he has 7 girls and 18 boys ;) So far all of the new kids that have come in have gone like this: boys to my room, girls to his. Which is kind of ridiculous because I only have 8 girls as well (25 kids) lol
ReplyDeleteI had this group two years ago in 2nd grade and have to say that despite having so many more boys....they are BY FAR a lot easier to manage than my girl-heavy class I had last year. I had so much more drama and chaos with all of those catty girls. I think I'd rather be boy-heavy! :)
Congrats on your Weight Loss! I'm with ya. I lost 35 lbs from January to May but have put 10 back on. I'm glad its ONLY ten but its hard to keep it off. I have to get back on track because just this extra ten pounds is dragging me down. Grrr.
Great ideas my friend! And a big YAY to the awesome work in the health/fitness department. Merry Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteHolly you are brilliant! I love how you incorporated minecraft into your behavior signal! My son ( 11 ) loves it and so do several of my firsties. Too cute!!

Traditions, Laughter and Happily Ever After
First grade at my school is very boy lopsided this year. Not as much as you--but enough that I notice it, a lot.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your hard word. I'm in a weight loss battle/voyage myself. I'm far from my weight I need to maintain but I know you can do it. I'm learning about guilt...and not being guilty if I'm not perfect.

You Might Be a First Grader….
I totally laughed when I saw that instagram pic of your target basket...I don't know if I am any better! We went to Target 3 times Saturday and one time today! We kept forgetting stuff we needed around the house...and of course I managed to find extra times each time we went!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the weight loss! Yay!! We are very boy-heavy, too. It's crazy. But, loving it so far :)
