Top O' the Snow Day to Ya! {A wee bit random}

This time last year I was bummin' because we hardly had an inch of snow all season and not one measly snow day. Love my job - but that early morning call telling me to turn off the alarm and snuggle back under those already warmed up blankies...well, who would complain about that?

Got that call again today - my third snow day this year.  I was like the Cheshire Cat!

My boys, of course, feel like they should be thanked.  They did, after all, sleep with frozen spoons under their pillows.  So we celebrated our day off with...

Snow Day Pancakes
We weren't really expecting this one, {or believing the meteorologists...there's always so much hype about the weather around here} so our snow day pancakes were "snowless" {whipped cream}.  They were still delish!

I spent the day finishing up my St. Patrick's Day pack {And drinking coffee.  And watching Downton Abbey}.  Have you watched this show?  Oh my goodness...it's a good one!  It's my newest addiction...that, and Candy Crush.

If you're looking for something to do with your kiddos for St. Patty's Day check out my newest creation.  I tried to include lots of variety.

Click the preview to check it out at my store.

I've also got a freebie St. Patrick's Day pack in this post that you might be interested in!

Since I had some extra time on my hands today I was wondering about all of you {If you've read my other posts, you know I can be pretty nosey}.  Who you are, where you're from, what grade you teach ...if you'd like to share, I'd love to read it and I bet my other nosey followers would love to read about you too!

Actually, what made me wonder about who you are is this article that I read today - it talked about the average teacher only lasting 4.5 years in the profession.  That made me so sad...so one more question...how long have you been teaching?

Toodles!

  1. Hey Holly! We had a snow day too! This was out four snow day in the last two weeks. I haven't seen my kids in over a week!! UGH! I am dying to get back...I never thought I would say that! I have been teaching 3 years...that is a very sad fact. I think a lot of it depends on what type of environment you teach in, example the economic status of your students, the demands of your job, etc. I love your new creation! I just finished a Rock, States of Matter, and Soil unit. :)

  3. No snow days around here (NC) :( We've had delayed openings, so I'll take that. Since I work in a year round school I have to make up snow days on Saturday.
This is my 9th year. I am still in love with my job as much as I was nine years ago...not so much with all the useless paperwork.

  6. Hi Holly, I grew up in MI, but live in CA now. I taught a full day kindergarten for 6 years, 3rd for 6 months, and have been in 1st for 14 years now. I still LOVE teaching and am amazed at how I have evolved as a teacher. No snow days here, or delayed starts or anything else. We did have 2 smoke days a few years ago when a wildfire was near (Not as fun as a snow day!!).

  7. I just moved to Phoenix from Wisconsin, and let me tell you - I totally am in withdrawal about no snow days!! I hate reading Facebook statuses about everyone's snow days when I'l still off to school. Boo.
This is my very first year teaching first grade! It's tough and tiring at times and administration is getting to me, but I love my kiddos!

  8. Good Morning Holly, I live in Central Kentucky. I currently teach 1st grade, I have for the last 3 years. I have also taught 4th grade for 2 years and kindergarten for 4 years. I love teaching and get as excited each morning as I did my first year. We have had 2 snow days and I am hoping for at least one more.

  9. Hey Holly, I am in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. We definitely don't have snow days, but sometimes we get days off due to floods / cyclones, etc. I have been homeschooling my 8 year old daughter for 6 months. I have also been an Occupational Therapist for 20 years. I now have a serious addiction to teacher blogs. You guys rock!!

  11. I live in Dayton Ohio and, since my school doesn't rely on buses, we pray for ICY days (the kids can't walk to school if it's icy!). I've been teaching for 21 years and I still love it!

  14. Hi Holly,
I live in Chicago IL, no snow days this year! We has 2 last year, but they are usually few and far between if the weather is bad. I have been teaching for 16 years. 5 years in Kdg. and 9 in first grade. I took off 20 years in between to raise my boys, I was then a teacher-aide for a few years part-time. I still love teaching, and I love your blog!

  15. Spoons under the pillow? We will have to try that trick next winter! I live in North Idaho. So we have snow...pretty much any month of the year it's possible! We had lots of snow this winter, but scattered just right so that we didn't have a single snow day this year!

I have been teaching for 17 years. Almost all of it in 1st grade. I love it...the teaching...the other parts...sometimes not so much.
