My Life in a Fishbowl

Oh my - I'm sure you're used to years like that.  I have some kiddos who are keepin' me on my toes which means lots of observations from Larry, Moe and Curly.  I know it's necessary and I appreciate the support but do you sometimes feel like you're the one on display, you're the one being observed.  I know, I know - my school social worker friends tell me that's not so...they aren't paying the least bit attention to my cuteness (or lack of) but I can't help but think they are wondering what the heck I'm doing ...just a tad bit.

Today was the ultimate of fishbowlness (we're allowed to make up words in blogland right?).  Our superintendent comes to visit every school year.  So nice of her - she let's us vent, ask questions and tells us how things are going at a district level.  She comes and observes a lucky few and writes a really nice letter stating her observations...chock full of kudos.

I try, try, try not to get my nose hairs into knots over this...but I do...I get nervous, really really nervous.  Today, I was one of the lucky few TIMES 100!!! Not only did our superintendent come in for THIRTY MINUTES (usually it's 5 maybe 10 tops) but my principal AND our assistant superintendent came along for the ride.  Of course we just finished up 14 minutes of deliciousness called read-to-self before they walked in...but that's okay. My kiddos were delightful, well behaved and really knocked everybody's socks right off their feet when they transitioned from read to self to working on writing.

After a day like today - having Larry, Moe and Curly observe will feel like a walk in the park...

  2. Whew!! Those observations make me super nervous too! Not only do we have those kinds of observations, but we are a Model School, so we have visitors almost every week. Talk about some major fishbowlness (you can ABSOLUTELY make up words & they might catch on and make it to the dictionary some day!)...

So glad you and your crew totally rocked it for the super!!

  3. Yes, I too, get very nervous about these kinds of visits. We were told today by email the dates that the Superintendent and a group of principals will be coming around to test out the new teacher evaluation our district put on iPads. So, lovely! I have a few weeks to sweat bullets!
I am so proud of you for doing such a wonderful job! Rock on girl!!
